Loafers
The weather isn’t really getting warmer (I was about to say it was, but let’s be honest—it's still cold!). But I am noticing more sunlight peeking through, and I know spring is on its way. And honestly? That’s good enough for me to start thinking about loosening the grip my boots have had on my feet and shifting towards something a little lighter.
There were a few questions about loafers in the group, and I actually have a black and white pair that I absolutely love wearing. (I do have a bit of a thing for black-and-white shoes—they just finish a colourful outfit so perfectly for a Winter!). Instead of automatically reaching for my trainers, I’ve been making a conscious effort to grab my loafers instead. It’s such an easy way to add an unexpected element to an outfit—just a little tweak that instantly makes a look feel more intentional.
📌 Lots of different images here and plenty of inspiration—but here are some key takeaways:
✨ Loafers + Socks = Yes!
It’s still cold, but that doesn’t mean loafers are off the table. Wearing them with socks absolutely works—and looks great. (If you need a refresher, we covered this in the JDI the other week!)
✨ Trouser Length Matters
Right now, loafer styling seems to be all about extremes—either super long (basically grazing the floor—flashbacks to our teens, anyone?) or cropped right at the slimmest part of the ankle.
👉 The cropped look works with shorter-length trousers or rolling them up slightly for a more relaxed vibe.
✨ Loafers & Skirts—A Winning Combo
Loafers also look great with skirts! Try them with tights (keeping the skirt and tights in a similar tone) or go for a midi skirt and test out the loafers + socks look. (I haven’t quite been convinced by this look on myself yet—but never say never!)
✨ Chunky or Slim Loafers?
Follow your usual body shape guidelines to get the best proportion.
Triangle, Circle, Hourglass → Standard chunky loafers work well.
Inverted Triangle, Rectangle → A slightly neater, more streamlined loafer will balance your shape best.
✨ What Colour Works Best?
There aren’t loads of colourful loafers in the shops at the moment (and the ones I have seen are £££), so sticking to a neutral in your season is probably the best bet.
Cooler seasons → Black or dark grey.
Warmer seasons → Brown or tan.
Wild card → A metallic loafer always looks incredible (and adds a bit of fun)!
