Tartan Trend Alert: Embrace the Season's Cosiest Pattern!

Is anyone else as excited as I am to see tartan making a big comeback this season? 🍂 From classic reds to fresh, modern takes, tartan is everywhere—and I'm absolutely here for it! There’s something about this timeless pattern that just feels right for autumn and winter, adding a cozy, heritage vibe to any outfit. If you’re ready to add a little tartan to your wardrobe, here are some of my favorite ways to style it this season.

Tartan is a classic Scottish pattern made up of criss-crossed bands in various colors, traditionally used to represent different clans. This season, it's trending big time and popping up in all sorts of styles on the high street. From heritage-inspired looks to bold modern colorways, tartan adds warmth and personality to your outfits, making it the perfect pick for autumn and winter.

Spotted on the catwalk

Tartan has flooded the catwalk over the last season, and even though we aren’t slaves to what's happening on the runway, it’s useful to see what trends are turning up on the catwalk and then what will appear in the shops.

One of the things I love about tartan is how it adds a really subtle pattern to any outfit, which is something that always easily adds interest to what you are wearing.

Tartan Scarf for Subtle Style

Not ready to dive into full tartan attire? A tartan scarf is the easiest way to add a pop of pattern to your look without committing to a whole outfit. Try a bright scarf over a solid-colored coat to create a focal point and break up dark winter outfits. It’s a small touch that goes a long way in adding personality to your look!

Style Tip: Choose a scarf with some contrast—red tartan on a navy or black coat, for example—for a polished and intentional look.

Tartan Dresses for easy layering

I love how versatile a Tartan dress is, it screams Christmas to me, but also looks so fab worn all through out Autumn. I also love how the checked colourful pattern easily lends itself to working with so many different colours in your wardrobe, making it such a versatile piece.

Style Tip: These dresses can easily be dressed up or down, layer with jumpers and boots for a casual feel and dress up with heels for a more fancy party look!

Tartan Skirt with Cozy Layers

A tartan skirt is such a versatile piece! Pair it with a chunky knit sweater and ankle boots for a cozy yet stylish winter outfit. It’s the perfect blend of comfort and style, ideal for everything from a casual day out to a festive gathering. Look for skirts in classic red or green tartans, or go for a unique color combo to make a statement.

Style Tip: Go for a midi-length skirt for extra warmth and pair it with a fitted top to balance out the volume.

Tartan Trousers for a Bold Look

Tartan trousers bring instant edge to your outfit! Pair them with a simple top and a structured blazer for a balanced, bold look that’s perfect for a night out or a holiday gathering. They’re a great way to wear tartan in a non-traditional way that feels modern and fresh.

Style Tip: To keep it chic, stick to solid tops and let the tartan trousers be the star of the show.

Tartan Coats for a Statement

A tartan coat instantly elevates any outfit! This season, coats in rich purples, greens, and even multi-colored tartans are everywhere. Throw it over a simple outfit to make it feel polished and on-trend without too much effort. It’s a cozy yet stylish outer layer that works beautifully from autumn through to the depths of winter.

Style Tip: If you’re feeling bold, try layering a brightly colored tartan coat over neutrals to make it the centerpiece of your look.
