Shopping the Christmas Sales
The moment Christmas is over, it feels like the world collectively dives into sale madness. Everywhere you look, there are flashy signs and tempting discounts calling your name. It’s easy to get swept up in the excitement, especially whilst we are all working hard to add colour and joy to our wardrobe.
January sales can be a fantastic opportunity, but only if you shop with intention. Buying something just because it’s cheap and feels like a bit of a bargain, almost always leads to a wardrobe full of clothes that you don’t want to wear - which is the opposite of what we want to achieve!
But how do you know if a purchase is truly worth it? I always use this checklist (for regular shopping as well) and thought it was the perfect time to share it.
Whenever I’m considering buying something, I run it through this simple set of questions to make sure it’s the right fit for my wardrobe and lifestyle. It’s also brilliant for second-hand shopping on platforms like Vinted—I find its easier to spend money on items that you don’t necessarily love/need when they aren’t full price and you feel like they are a bit of a bargain!

Then simply look at all your answers and see which way they are leaning -
BUY: If you’re mostly answering “Yes” or “Planned,” and it aligns with your lifestyle, wardrobe goals, and JOYFUL dressing principles.
DON’T BUY: If you’re finding more “No” or impulsive responses, or if it doesn’t bring joy and usefulness to your wardrobe.
By asking these questions, I’ve honestly saved myself so much wardrobe regret—and money and have it saved on the notes app on my phone.
Tips for Shopping the January Sales
Even with a checklist, navigating sales can feel a bit overwhelming. Here are a few extra tips to keep you on track:
Make a Wishlist: Know what you’re looking for before you shop. Identifying wardrobe gaps helps you stay focused.
Set a Budget: Decide how much you’re willing to spend and stick to it. No sneaky “just one more thing” moments!
Shop Your Colour Season: Filter by colours that work for you to save time and avoid distractions.
Prioritise Quality Basics: Sales are the best time to grab those slightly pricier, well-made pieces you’ll wear forever.
Give It 24 Hours: Not sure? Leave it in your basket overnight. If you’re still thinking about it, it might be worth buying.
